Asbestos Exposure

We are going to have a neighbor and that will be very soon. My sister-in-law had her concrete house built just next to ours and it is still undergoing construction. The house is already half done and perhaps by the end of this year, the house will be occupied. There are times, I watch workers do their job mixing cement and gravel, piling blocks after blocks and cutting floor tiles. I wonder how these workers and all other construction workers can support their families with their minimal compensation. Looking at their physical structure, thin and ghastly, I can say they are not of good health which made me think if they have mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer which is caused by asbestos exposure. This type of cancer is fatal but preventive though it is extremely difficult to detect in the early stages. Victims are often estimated to have less than a year to survive once they are diagnosed. Those who are diagnosed who seek medical treatments have highest rate of survival. The key factor in developing this disease is the total number of fibers breathed in. When inhaled, these fibers can cause this serious disease which may lead to death. Not only are the construction workers are at risk with mesothelioma but also heating and ventilation engineers, carpenters and joiners, plumbers, roofing contractors, painters and decorators and a lot of others as well. Asbestos can be found in asbestos cement products; textured coatings; floor tiles, textiles and composites; loose asbestos in ceiling or floor cavity; sprayed coatings on ceilings, walls, and beams/columns.

I am not certain if these workers have mesothelioma but they have been with this kind of job for several years already, constructing houses, buildings and other business structures exposing them to dangerous substances, like asbestos. It would be best to inform them about the risks and that they have legal rights wherein they may contact a Mesothelioma Lawyer
